A Quiet Choice for Flexible Heat: The BTN550-650GLC/GLE Series

When a boiler room has to switch between gas and oil without stopping production, the burner is expected to change fuel, keep emissions within local limits, and hold the set point—quietly. The BTN550-650GLC/GLE Series was designed for that exact moment.
Rated from 600 kW to 6 155 kW, the range covers small district loops, mid-size steam boilers, and large hot-water plants that run 6 000 hours a year. One cast-steel housing accepts both fuels; the change-over valve is already inside, so no extra skid is required. The burner keeps its original footprint whether the site is supplied with LNG, light oil, or both in succession.
Two Ways to Modulate
Two control philosophies are offered.
Mechanical modulation links a single servomotor to the air damper and fuel valves through a sealed linkage. The cam curves are machined at the factory and can be re-indexed on site with a torque wrench; no laptop is needed. For installations that already run pneumatic or basic PLC panels, this version keeps the electrical cabinet small and the spare-parts list short.
Electronic proportional modulation adds independent actuators for fan, gas valve, and oil valve. A 4–20 mA signal from the boiler controller positions each actuator to its own map, allowing a 6:1 turn-down on gas and 4:1 on oil without head-exchange. Oxygen trim can be patched in later through the same plug; no new burner is required.
Clean Flame, Ready for Rules
Combustion head geometry is shared across the series. A stainless-steel, multi-louver flame stabiliser gives a 120 m/s mix velocity at 3 kPa combustion-air pressure. The result is a flat, pale-blue envelope that stays 30 mm inside the quarl even when intake air drops to –20 °C. Sites from Helsinki to Dubai report NOx ≤ 80 mg/kWh on natural gas and ≤ 120 mg/kWh on light oil without FGR, sufficient for current EU and GCC regulations. If limits tighten, a simple FGR collar is available; the fan casing already has the tapped bosses.
Room to Work
Maintenance was treated as part of the specification, not an afterthought. The hinged air-pipe swings 90° without tools, revealing the full combustion head. The ignition transformer is mounted on a slide rail and can be exchanged in under five minutes. All gaskets are reusable Viton; one spare set ships with the burner. A QR code on the nameplate opens the latest multilingual manual; no login is required.
Fits the Truck, Fits the Plane
Shipping stays uncomplicated. The heaviest single piece is 285 kg, small enough for a standard pallet and a 2-ton fork truck. Lifting eyes are integral, so no special frame is needed for rooftop hoisting. Cable glands are metric as standard; NPT adapters are in the box for North American jobs.
No Drama, Just Heat
The BTN550-650GLC/GLE Series will not impress visitors with bright lights or touchscreen theatrics. It is simply a dual-fuel burner that changes fuel when asked, holds the curve it was given, and asks for a filter and a coupling grease once a season. For engineers who measure value in unplanned shutdowns avoided, that is usually enough.
